The basics

What are hair extensions?

Hair extensions are additional wefts of hair that attach to your natural hair to add volume, length, or both — instantly and without any permanent commitment. Unlike tape-ins, sew-ins, or bonds that require a salon and can last weeks or months, clip-in and Halo extensions are temporary — you put them in, wear them, and take them out the same day. No salon visit, no damage, no long-term commitment.

At Love The Style, all three of our extension methods are designed for DIY application at home. Most customers are done in under 10 minutes. The Halo takes under 60 seconds once you know what you're doing.

Why it matters

Why we use Remy Hair

Not all hair extensions are created equal — and the difference starts with the hair itself. Remy hair is the highest grade of human hair used in extensions, and it's the only type we use at Love The Style. Here's what makes it different.

In standard (non-Remy) extensions, hairs are collected from multiple sources and blended together randomly. This means the cuticles — the outer protective layer of each strand — face in different directions. The result is hair that tangles, mats, and deteriorates quickly. In Remy hair, every single strand is kept with its cuticle facing the same direction, root to tip, exactly as it grows naturally. This alignment is what gives Remy hair its signature silky feel, natural movement, and long-lasting quality.

Cuticles aligned
Every strand flows root to tip — the same direction as your natural hair. This means no tangling, no matting, no frizz.
Silky smooth feel
Because the cuticles aren't fighting each other, Remy hair feels soft and natural straight out of the box and stays that way.
Heat styleable
100% Remy human hair can be curled, straightened, and styled with heat tools just like your own hair. Synthetic hair cannot.
Lasts 12–18 months
With proper care, LTS extensions last significantly longer than non-Remy alternatives — making them a better long-term investment.

The alternative is synthetic hair — cheaper upfront, but it can't be heat styled, tends to look plastic and unnatural, and needs replacing within months. Over time, Remy human hair is far more cost effective — and it will always look better.

Find your match

Which type is right for you?

LTS offers three application methods — all 100% Remy hair, all DIY-friendly, all removable the same day. The difference is how they attach, who they suit, and how they feel to wear.

Not sure which is right for you? Our 60-second quiz asks five quick questions and recommends the perfect match for your hair type, lifestyle and goals.

Getting the colour right

How to choose your shade

Colour matching is the most important decision you'll make when buying extensions. A perfect shade match means nobody will ever know you're wearing them. A poor match will be obvious from across the room.

The golden rule: match your extensions to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair — not your roots. Most people's hair is lighter at the ends than at the roots due to natural sun exposure and colouring. Extensions blend through the lengths, so that's where the match needs to be spot on. If you're ever between two shades, choose the slightly lighter option — it blends more naturally and you can always add a warm toner if needed.

LTS offers 9 shades from Jet Black through to Platinum Blonde. If you're not sure, our shade chart shows every colour with swatch images and who each shade suits — or start a live chat with us for a free colour match from our experts.

Care and longevity

How long do they last?

LTS extensions are made from 100% Remy human hair and are built to last. How long yours last depends on how often you wear them, how you care for them, and how you store them.

Wear frequency
Expected lifespan
Best for
Daily wear
6–10 months
Everyday styling
3–4 times a week
10–14 months
Regular use
Occasional wear
12–18 months+
Events and occasions

The biggest impact on longevity is heat. Extensions don't receive natural moisture from your scalp the way your own hair does — so excessive heat dries them out faster. Always use a heat protectant and keep tools under 180°C.

✓ Do
Brush gently before and after each wear, ends first
Use sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner
Wash every 15–20 wears or when product builds up
Air dry flat — never blow dry on high heat
Store in the box or a soft pouch after each use
Apply heat protectant before every heat styling session
✕ Don't
Sleep in your extensions — always remove before bed
Swim or shower with extensions clipped in
Brush over the clips — brush below them, working downward
Use heat tools above 180°C on extensions
Use heavy oils or silicone-based products near the weft
Store wet or bundled — they'll tangle and mat
Common questions

Questions we get every day

When worn correctly, clip-in and Halo extensions cause minimal to no damage to your natural hair. The key is not wearing them too close to the hairline, not sleeping in them, and not placing clips in exactly the same spot every single day. The Halo is the safest option for delicate or thinning hair — the wire has zero contact with your natural hair, so there's no tension or friction at all. The Invisible Clip-In is the next safest — its silicone clips grip gently without pulling. Used and rotated properly, damage should not be a concern with any LTS method.

Yes — and the Halo is our number one recommendation for anyone with thinning hair. Because there are no clips, no tension, and no attachment to your natural hair, the Halo adds fullness and length without putting any stress on fragile strands. The Invisible Clip-In also works well for thinning hair — its ultra-flat silicone weft distributes weight gently and won't show through finer hair. We would not recommend the Classic Clip-In for very fine or thinning hair as the lace weft is slightly heavier.

Yes — because LTS extensions are 100% Remy human hair, they can be professionally coloured by your hairdresser. You can safely go darker by up to 2 shades. Lightening is possible but must be done by a professional as extensions are more porous than natural hair and can over-process quickly if bleached incorrectly. We always recommend taking your extensions to your salon for any colour work rather than attempting it at home. Getting the shade right at the point of purchase is the easiest solution — our free colour match service makes this straightforward.

With Clip-In extensions — yes. The multiple wefts distributed around your head allow you to pull your hair into ponytails, half-up styles, and most updos. Placement matters — keeping wefts below ear level gives you the most flexibility for wearing your hair up. With the Halo — it's more limited. High ponytails and tight updos can expose the wire. Half-up styles, loose ponytails, and most down styles work beautifully. If you wear your hair up regularly, clip-ins are the better choice.

Remove the extensions first — never wash them while clipped in. Gently brush from ends to roots to remove tangles. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and a small amount of sulphate-free shampoo. Swish the extensions through gently — don't scrub. Apply a lightweight conditioner from mid-lengths to ends, leave for 2–3 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Lay flat to air dry — never hang them vertically when wet as this stresses the weft. Once fully dry, brush through and store in the box. Aim to wash every 15–20 wears, not after every use.

Both sets contain the same quality Remy hair — the difference is coverage and weight. The 5-piece set is ideal for fine to medium hair wanting natural-looking volume — "my hair but better." The 9-piece set is for medium to thick hair wanting maximum volume and a full transformation. If you're fine-haired and go for a 9-piece, the weight can feel uncomfortable and the wefts can be harder to hide. When in doubt, go 5-piece for fine hair and 9-piece for anything medium or thicker. Our quiz factors this in automatically.

LTS extensions range from $139 to $399 AUD depending on the method, piece count, and shade. With a lifespan of 12–18 months for regular wearers, the cost per wear is significantly lower than salon treatments, tape-ins, or permanent methods. Remy hair extensions cost more upfront than synthetic alternatives — but synthetic hair typically needs replacing within 3 months and can't be heat styled or coloured. Over 12 months, quality Remy extensions are nearly always more cost effective, and they look significantly better throughout.

Generally you need at least 10–15cm (4–6 inches) of natural hair for extensions to blend properly. Shorter than this and the wefts become difficult to conceal. If your hair is in that range, focus wefts on the lower and mid sections, choose a gradual length increase rather than a dramatic jump, and add waves or curls after application to blend the transition. The Invisible Clip-In is the best option for shorter hair — the flat weft is the easiest to conceal. Not sure if it will work for your length?
