Putting in a halo hair extension is genuinely one of the simplest things you can do with your hair. If you've never worn one before and are wondering where to start, this is the complete beginner's walkthrough.
Before your first wear: size the wire
Your halo comes with three band sizes. Before anything else, try each size to find the right fit. The wire should sit comfortably across your crown without sliding forward or sitting too loose. A correctly fitted wire doesn't move when you shake your head.
To adjust: our halo has a small adjustment mechanism. The full guide to getting this exactly right is here: How to Adjust Your Halo Wire. Get this right before your first wear and you won't need to adjust it again.
Step 1: Separate your top section
Use your fingers or a tail comb to separate the top section of your hair — roughly the top third, from about ear level upward. Clip this section up out of the way.
Step 2: Place the wire
Hold the halo by the wire and place it on your head, positioning it about 3–4 cm back from your natural hairline. The wire should sit across the crown, roughly level with the tops of your ears on each side.
Step 3: Release your top hair
Unclip your top section and let it fall naturally over the wire. The wire should be completely hidden under this layer. If you can still see the wire, the top section isn't thick enough — take a slightly larger section from further back.
Step 4: Adjust and blend
Check in the mirror from the front and sides. The extension hair should fall naturally below your own hair. Run your fingers through the join point to blend the two lengths, then use a brush or your hands to blend the overall result.
Optional but recommended: run a curling wand or flat iron through both your natural hair and the extension hair together at the ends. This unifies the texture and creates a seamless blend.
Common first-wear issues and fixes
Wire is visible from the front: you need to take a larger top section, or position the wire slightly further back.
Extension hair looks obviously different to natural hair: the texture isn't blended. Run a curling wand or straightener through both together.
Wire keeps sliding forward: it's too loose. Adjust to a tighter band size.
Uncomfortable or headachy: it's too tight. Adjust to a looser band size or move the wire slightly further back on the head.
